Game of Thrones season 7, episode 2: Are these two characters dead or alive?

The bloody end of Game of Thrones season 7, episode 2 Sunday night left us with a lot of questions as to the fate of some major characters.

Near the end of Sunday night’s episode of Game of Thrones, Yara Greyjoy tells Ellaria Sand Snake that Theon is her protector over a few pints. But only a few minutes later, Theon doesn’t quite live up to the protector name.

Euron Greyjoy hits Yara and Theon’s ship with an epic, fiery attack. In the process, there was (surprise, surprise) a lot of bloodshed. We saw at least two of the Sand Snake daughters meet their violent ends, but the fates of Ellaria and others is still up in the air. It’s suggested that Ellaria is a goner as the last time we see her, she’s telling her attackers to go ahead and get it over with. But did they? With at least two of her daughters dead, and Oberon long gone, could this be the end of the Dorn storyline?

Then there’s perhaps the episode’s more pressing question, dramatically: Whether Euron killed his niece. In one of the episode’s most climactic scenes, we see a seriously crazy-eyed Euron grab Yara between fiery flashes of battle and immediately put meek Theon in the hot seat. Euron, holding a weapon to Yara’s throat, gives Theon a chance to save his sister. The shots darting between Yara’s expression of outrage and fear, Euron’s madness, and Theon’s utter panic were heart-stopping. In the end, Theon wimps out. He dives overboard, much to Euron’s delight and Yara’s horror.

We end the episode without knowing what’s become of either Ellaria or Yara. Like Theon, wading  in the waters, we’re left in the dark.

Can we glean anything from the previews of future episodes? From an earlier teaser, we saw Euron in what seemed to be a kind of victory parade. Perhaps returning to King’s Landing to deliver his “gift” to Cersei? Does that mean he killed all his enemies, including Ellaria and Yara?
