The Great British Baking Show season 4, episode 7 live stream: Watch online
The Great British Baking Show will ask its bakers to produce a series of desserts for Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry on this week’s episode.
The Great British Baking Show has all sorts of fun left for its remaining bakers. According to the description below, this is also the last round before the quarterfinals begin.
That means that Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry will be even more exacting than before, if that’s actually possible.
PBS’ press description of this episode, alas, outdoes me when it comes to baking-based puns (though Mel and Sue will likely have more than enough ready for all three challenges this week):
"Learn why sweet challenges mean a bitter end for one baker as the six battle for a spot in the quarter final. The signature has them rolling out their skills; the technical is a tricky French dessert; the showstopper is a bit of a mousse marathon."
For once, we also know exactly what the technical is. The photo above comes with the caption that indicates that Candice is working on a marjolaine. Since the BBC recipe indicates that it’s Mary Berry’s recipe, we can safely predict that it’s her assignment this week, and it asks for quite a few different skills, including chocolate work for a ganache. It’s also a good follow-up from last week’s botanical challenge because it asks for a meringue as well, giving bakers the chance to redeem themselves.
The photos also indicate what the showstopper is, beyond just the mention of “mousse.” That’s far too simple (and not really a baking skill unless it’s in conjunction with something else). No, instead it appears that Mary and Paul will demand two different types of mousse mini cakes, which means you can bet on hearing the word “uniformity.”
Unfortunately, the signature remains a mystery for now, though “rolling out” indicates that it’s likely some form of dough-based challenge.
