Kylo Ren’s getting a new ship in Star Wars The Last Jedi
By Buckie Wells
If you thought it was weird that he changed his name from Ben Solo to Kylo Ren, wait until you hear about his new ship in Star Wars The Last Jedi.
In case you missed it, I occasionally like to make fun of some of the dudes in Star Wars. With the exception of Anakin Skywalker’s really grim turn to the dark side and some questionable mass slaughters here and there, you’ll notice that none of the villains are written to outright terrorize children in every frame they appear in. The Star Wars franchise consists of family films, as Carrie Fisher told us in the behind-the-scenes reel. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that some of these big bads come across a little silly every now and again.
Our current looming figure of evil is a man who went completely mental as he tried to emulate his nefarious grandfather (who was ultimately redeemed) and became a demonstration of what happens when you get wayyy too much Pantene in your eye.
Without rehashing all the questionable Kylo Ren plotholes from The Force Awakens, it looks like The Last Jedi aims to make Kylo Ren a bit more menacing. Rian Johnson gave him a gnarly scar. Additionally, earlier rumors posited that we were going to see the Sith confront Rey and Luke on Ahch-To. Perhaps, more importantly though, he’s getting a new ship.
First revealed by The Star Wars Show, Kylo Ren’s new ship is the TIE Silencer (which is apparently short for Sienar Jaemus TIE/VN Space Superiority Fighter).

If you look at the screengrab above, note that it looks like it has fangs. Or like a pot fork. I kind of expect it to hiss at me. Which isn’t that far off from what I would expect Kylo Ren to do. If the aesthetic is dramatic and edgy without serving any real purpose beyond “it looks cool,” it must belong to him.

I hope he’s not an exemplary pilot like literally everyone else. I’m tired of naturally-gifted pilots in Star Wars. I hope he’s mediocre with bad aim.
The TIE Silencer zooms into theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
