The best part of Spider-Man: Homecoming comes from a cameo

Spider-Man: Homecoming is finally in theaters, and it’s safe to say that one of the best parts of it comes in the form of a fantastic cameo. Spoilers ahead!

When Sony and Marvel struck a deal for the screen rights to Spider-Man, it came with hesitation and excitement from fans. Do we need another one of these movies? But with Marvel involved, maybe we don’t need to worry?

With Spider-Man: Homecoming, you don’t have to worry. The webbed wonder finds himself in good hands. His youthful spirit reinvigorates a character who gets a third reboot in a small amount of time.

But I’m not here to give you a review of the movie. I’m here to just blatantly tell you what the best part is.

SPOILER WARNING!

You have been warned.

Ready?

Okay!

Rumors ran rampant before Spider-Man: Homecoming’s premiere that Chris Evans had a cameo as Captain America. Which doesn’t necessarily make sense due to how Civil War ended, what with him on the run from the law and all.

But Captain America shows up. And it’s in the absolute best way possible.

At some point since becoming unfrozen, Captain America did a bunch of promotional videos/stock footage videos for schools, walking students through things like gym class and detention. It must have been sometime around The Avengers when he needed things to do, as it’s definitely his retro outfit and not anything from Winter Soldier or Civil War.

It’s such a cheesy premise, and it works so perfectly. Captain America is the straitlaced member of the Avengers; who better to be preaching to school kids and starring in videos that say things like, “So, you got detention…” when Peter’s sitting in detention. That’s got to hurt to someone who stole the man’s shield.

When he pops up for Peter’s gym class, the on-screen Cap gestures to “your gym teacher,” who happens to be standing on the opposite side of the television where Cap points. It’s just sheer hilarity. His gym teacher mutters something afterward about how Cap’s “probably a war criminal now,” because how exactly did Civil War end again? Oh right, Cap on the run and springing his friends from superhero jail.

It would still be perfect if the cameo had ended with those two videos, but it gets so much better when there’s the post-credits scene.

It’s basically nothing but Captain America trolling us fans, as this video preaches on the virtue of patience. And how sometimes it leads to very little that seems not worth it. “You wonder… why you waited so long for something… so disappointing,” he says before looking off camera and asking how many more videos he has left.

If us fans want to be trolled by anyone, it has to come in the form of an Avenger. And this one just fits with the rest of the tone of Spider-Man: Homecoming. We don’t need set-up for another MCU film. We just need something silly and hilarious.
