Game of Thrones season 7: Who goes north with Jon Snow?

A few brief shots in the new season 7 trailer for Game of Thrones confirm some spoilers that we knew about, but who exactly is on that trip north?

Warning: this post will talk about some potential spoilers based on yesterday’s Game of Thrones trailer.

With less than a month to go until the season 7 premiere, it seems easy to suspect that yesterday’s release of a new Game of Thrones trailer might be the last big release we get until the show actually comes back on July 16. That means that it’s time to break down some of the big questions we still have.

In my initial analysis, I noted that fighting plays a major role in the trailer, and one blink and you’ll miss it shot seems to not necessarily contradict, but at least vaguely confirm some of the spoilers that had been floating around based on who was where during filming.

Here’s the trailer again. See if you can spot it:

Not sure what we’re talking about? Here’s the shot in question, and beware spoilers below:

Late last year, the speculation had it that Jon Snow would once again take a trip beyond the Wall as part of a group of four that also had Jorah Mormont, The Hound, and Tormund Giantsbane in its ranks.

Now, HBO was pretty careful not to show the face of anyone but Jon Snow here, but it appears you can cleanly pick out five figures, so let’s play a game of identification. Other shots in the trailer do appear to confirm that Tormund is part of the group, since they seem to show him pretty far north. Images like this one posted by our sister site, Winter is Coming, place the Hound and Berric Dondarrion, who was also shown with his flaming sword again in the trailer, together.

That just leaves one figure possibly unidentified, which brings us back to the spoilers. Jorah actually makes a lot of sense. He’s originally from the north, so he’s actually suited to the climate.

Next: Is Jon Snow going to survive season 7?

Either way, it looks rather dire for this quintet.
