Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Finn will probably get involved in a little action

Although the only trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has Finn still recovering from the events of The Force Awakens, don’t expect him to stay that way.

Star Wars, oddly enough, has this tendency to put three characters at the center of each of its trilogies. For the original trilogy, we had Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo. For the prequels, it’s Anakin Skywalker, Padmé Amidala, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Finally, in the sequels, it’s Rey, Poe Dameron, and Finn. (She officially owns the lightsaber now, so she comes first.)

However, the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi revealed Finn had some more healing to do, something confirmed by the huge Vanity Fair story on the film from last week.

That does not mean that he will be completely sidelined, though, much like Luke didn’t spend that much time in a bacta tank after his wampa encounter in The Empire Strikes Back. It very much seems to be the complete opposite, instead. With a hat tip to io9, here’s what John Boyega posted to Instagram:

Thanking The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson seems to indicate that yes, this is something from that movie. On the whole, it’s a blaster with some  distinct details. The first is that the lights actually glow blue, not red as you might expect. It’s a nice color touch, perhaps hearkening back to Rey’s lightsaber.

Additionally, Boyega specifies that it’s Finn’s blaster. For a character that started the sequel trilogy out as FN-287, having possessions could serve as a fairly large step in his character arc. He has a jacket and a blaster. He’s practically at the same level as Han now — although Han had at least two different pairs of pants, one for each set of Corellian bloodstripes.

Finally, the simple fact that it’s a blaster means that Finn has a lot more to do than just resting and recovering. The Resistance needs all the help it can get, after all.
