Dirty Dancing – May 24

Starring: Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes

Premise: You might be screaming thinking “What blasphemy is this?!?!” But hear me out.

Yes, it’s a total remake of a beloved movie that definitely won’t live up to it’s predecessor. There’s absolutely no way this made-for-TV movie will ever come close to capturing the magic the original movie had. But you still need to watch. Because everybody is going to be talking about it, good or bad, and you just don’t want to be left out.

The story is the same: rich girl vacations at a fancy resort in the mountains; meets handsome, older hunk; falls in love; gets her V-card punched; catches fallout from her terrible dad; becomes a woman. There’s not much deviation from the 1987 classic, except casting, so I don’t have to run down what’s different and what’s not.

The buzz: You’re definitely going to be disappointed. If you’ve never seen the Jennifer Grey/Patrick Swayze film, you might enjoy this. The draw is really just morbid curiosity, and you’ll probably leave wildly underwhelmed. TVLine says, “The project isn’t all bad. Breslin does an admirable job in the lead role. Her Baby is funny, cute, intelligent and engaging — which makes it even harder to believe that she’d fall for Prattes’ clod of a character.”
