25 things you didn’t know about Wonder Woman
13. She once merged with the X-Men’s Storm
Yes, the canny amongst you have already noticed something of an issue here. Wonder Woman is one of the flagship characters for DC Comics, home of Batman, Superman, and the Justice League. Storm, meanwhile, hails from Marvel, which boasts the X-Men, Captain America, and the Avengers. So, how exactly could these two characters meet, much less merge into a single superhero?
Though the two giant companies of the comics world seem universes apart nowadays, things weren’t always so. In fact, during previous eras, the two would occasionally stage major crossover events. During the 1990s, comics sales were fantastically low. Creating never-before-seen interactions between superheroes was one way to temporarily bump sales.
So, you’d get Batman versus Captain America, Superman facing off against Spider-Man (which seems deeply mismatched, right?), and Green Lantern butting heads with the Silver Surfer. Actually, Batman saw a lot of battles, including others with Daredevil, the Punisher, the Hulk, and Spider-Man again.
Eventually, much of this resulted in Amalgam Comics, the imprint in which DC and Marvel combined their universes in 24 one-shot issues. Essentially, the two universes of Marvel and DC become aware of each other, creating a potentially world-ending paradox. The ultimate solution is to merge the two and their characters besides.
It’s fun for nothing other than the strange yet often right merging of characters. For example, Batman and Wolverine combined into a single character called Dark Claw. Captain America merges with Superman to become Super-Soldier, which sounds absolutely terrifying.
Wonder Woman, meanwhile, becomes one with the X-Men’s Storm. This results in Amazon, one of the strongest characters in the world. Not only does she have her weather-controlling powers, but she also displays incredible stamina, martial arts skills, and various god/goddess-granted powers.
