11. That time Wonder Woman maybe joined a biker gang

The “x-treme” storylines of the 1990s often focused on silly powers and dramatic twists that came straight out of soap operas. And, yet, the very heights of ridiculousness achieved by 1990s comics also makes them strangely endearing. There’s something appealing about the utter weirdness and risk-taking of these works that’s not inherently good (though there certainly were many genuinely good comics during that era), but still very satisfying.

Need an example? Then check out biker Wonder Woman.

Okay, it’s not quite that straightforward. As far as I know, Diana never actually joined a biker gang. Yet, she sure looked like it.

How did this come to pass? Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta, came across a prophecy that said Wonder Woman would die. She actually began to see visions of the future because of some time spent in a demon dimension, but that’s for another time.

Of course, Hippolyta doesn’t want her daughter to die. So, what was her solution? Strip Diana of the Wonder Woman title and give it to another Amazon. Easy peasy!

Of course, Diana was not entirely cool with that strategy, in part because Hippolyta doesn’t bother to explain her motivations behind de-wondering Wonder Woman. Diana still wants to fight crime, though, so she dons another costume and goes forth. The short shorts and leather bra combo is a little strange, however. Of course, she eventually goes back to her original look, but not before establishing her inexplicable biker look.
