More “Stranger Things” spoilers as another cast member is leaked

A lot has been leaked so far about the second season of the runaway hit Stranger Things, the sci-fi thriller series on Netflix. Well, there’s more!

Stranger Things took the world by storm last year and now, we want more from our favorite show!

WARNING: This article contains spoilers about Stranger Things.

Despite their best efforts to keep secrets about season two, Netflix cannot hide the casting news from Stranger Things fans. Yesterday, TVLine reported that Will Chase has been cast in a recurring role, as a father named Neil Mayfield whose family is new to Hawkins, Indiana. Naturally, fans have taken this to mean that Chase will be playing a father figure to the other new series regulars, Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery. TVLine also reported earlier that these two were cast as a stepbrother and stepsister, whose function in the story line is yet to be known. What we do know is that Sink will play Max. A tomboy who is slow to trust people (not unlike our beloved Eleven); Montgomery will play an “edgy” bad boy whose charming demeanor might hide something more sinister.

A mysterious woman comes to town

In addition to Sink and Montgomery, a Danish actress, Linnea Berthelsen, was cast as “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child.” Hmmm, sound familiar? My personal theory: she is another experiment gone awry. She escaped the Department of Energy. TVLine clarifies that she is not a Hawkins resident. But she is “mysteriously connected to the town’s supernatural events”. Maybe a force for good, but also maybe part of the growing army of terrifying monsters hinted at in the teaser.

What–or who–is the monster? Or monsters?

Rampant fan theories have suggested that Eleven is the monster, but The Wrap recapped some vital details of the new teaser and the last episode of the first season. A second monster may have been introduced, resembling something like the Thessalhydra in the boys’ game of Dungeons & Dragons. In hybrid monster lore, all of a Thessalhydra’s eight heads must be severed in order to defeat the monster. One fan, who goes by poptart92 on Reddit, theorized that Will might have returned “infected” by said monster, and is serving as a host for hydra larvae until they mature and, well… hatch? If this is the case, the monster will have to exit Will’s body somehow. Which would likely result in his death.

New and old acquaintances

Besides Chase, Sink, Montgomery and Berthelsen, two other new series regulars include Paul Reiser (Mad About You) and Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings). Reiser is a new Department of Energy addition picking up the pieces after last season’s debacle. Astin joins the cast “portraying a kindhearted former nerd. He went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour), which sounds on brand for Astin.

Stranger Things will be back on Netflix on Halloween 2017. I know, long way away, but in the meantime we can all keep scouring those fan theory subreddits.
