This fourteen-second teaser for The Defenders is actually very revealing

The Defenders left little to the imagination with a very telling teaser/spoiler released early yesterday on Twitter.

WARNING: This article contains a spoiler regarding villains in the Netflix series The Defenders.

A couple of things were confirmed on Twitter yesterday about The Defenders — one, that there will be many actors reprising roles from the four separate series leading up to this ensemble miniseries; and two, the villains will definitely be The Hand and Elektra–together.

In the fourteen-second trailer released yesterday via The Defenders’ Twitter account, we see recognizable details of the tomb from season 2 of Daredevil, the one that held Elektra, a.k.a. the one in which The Hand personally put Elektra. Alongside the video was the tweet, “Oh, great. #DEFEND”. This actually is the first time the production is confirming that Elektra is coming back from the dead, and she is NOT helping The Defenders.

It was no secret that Elektra was coming back, since it was announced early on that Elodie Yung was going to be cast in Defenders. Stephen Gerding said on CBR.com, “As longtime Marvel Comics readers know, Elektra doesn’t tend to remain dead.” However there was no clear indication until today that she’d be teaming up with The Hand. Hints have been dropped in the recent past about The Hand’s possible return; as ScreenRant pointed out, the Chaste will be part of this story line, and historically they are among The Hand’s greatest nemeses.

CBR also reported that Jessica Henwick of Iron Fist teased that her character, Colleen Wing, will have a more detailed story line alongside Misty Knight. Both characters are known for flying under the radar and operating as lone wolves, so it will be interesting to see what will be yielded by their union.
