Bates Motel – Netflix
If you like your dramas a little on the creepy side, with just a hint of incest for flavor, then queue up Bates Motel right away. It’s eerie and quiet, and it will definitely make you rethink stopping at that seedy roadside motel.
Loosely adapted from and serving as an effective prequel to the Hitchcock classic thriller, Psycho, Bates Motel picks up long before Norman ever even thought about stabbing someone in the shower. It starts when Norman is a teenager, and him and his mother relocate to a Pacific Northwest town. Of course it’s a result of shady circumstances, and things only get weirder as Norman starts to show signs of being completely nuts.
The show never really comes right out and presents Norma and Norman as lovers, but there are enough implications made to give you the total creeps. You can’t really sort out which is the crazier among the two, but if you stick with it, things start to clear themselves up. A&E just aired its fifth and final season, offering fans the kind of ending the show really deserves. Netflix, however, has the previous four.
Starring: Freddie Highmore, Vera Farmiga, Max Thierot, and Olivia Cooke
