What’s better than a juicy soap opera with lots of betrayal, steamy scenes, and intrigue? Oh, you know. A soap opera about Vikings with lots of blood, guts, and pillaging. Vikings, an original History Channel show, is the period drama you didn’t know you needed in your life.
Vikings is about a young farmer, Ragnor Lothbrook, who disagrees with the politics of his Earl, so he fights his way up the ranks of the hierarchy. He plans lots of expeditions, builds lots of boats, brings home lots of loot, and is just an all around badass. He makes all the medieval history a lot less boring as we learn about how the Vikings explored and conquered most of the Western world.
In addition to all the super interesting Scandinavian history we’re subjected to, Ragnar provides us a lot of romantic drama as well. He seeks out strong, independent women, with which he is in constant conflict. They fight, make up, and have a lot of R-rated sex that balances all that history in nice way. The show is really quite feminist, showcasing this culture’s respect and reverence for the women in their community.
