Supergirl Preview: Maggie and Kara Butt Heads Over How to Save Alex in Newest Episode

If you’re a Maggie fan, great. But if you’re an Alex or Kara fan, the newest episode of Supergirl may give you a few reasons to worry.

While we all love Alex, I think we can all agree that Chyler Leigh has sat through some pretty inconsistent writing this season. Sure, her coming out story is particularly noteworthy in today’s television landscape, but how much praise can you give to something we only get to see for about two minutes in every episode? When we do see Alex and her girlfriend, Maggie Sawyer, they’re doing something cute for about .3 seconds before their scene ends and Alex is doing something like not listening to Kara or encouraging her to be in a relationship with Mon-El, two things that season 1 Alex would never do.

But to compensate for all the airtime that Alex didn’t get before, Supergirl‘s next episode will focus on her entirely.

In the episode “Alex” (Boy, the creativity is absolutely astounding at The CW. Honestly, I can already hear Andrew Kreisberg in the behind the scenes clip saying, “What better name for an episode all about Alex than … Alex?”), a character first introduced in season 1 resurfaces with a plan to destroy Kara. Of course, as we all know, her weakest link is

bad writing

her dumb boyfriend

unemployment

Lena Luthor’s sex eyes

her sister.

While speaking with TVLine, Leigh explained that her kidnapping sparks a bit of a battle between Maggie and Kara:

"“Maggie and Kara have to team up to try to figure out what’s happened to me, and that sets up a lot of interesting conversations between the two ladies. It’s almost like a peeing contest, you know what I mean? Like, ‘Who can do this better? Who knows Alex better?’ And it comes to a head at one point.”"

Let’s see — who knows Alex better? Her sister who kind of worships her and will literally move a giant plane out of orbit to save her … or Maggie ‘I’m afraid to tell you the whole truth because of how you will react’ Sawyer?

To be fair, pitting two women against each other is very Supergirl circa season 2. I mean, Kara and Maggie both bring something to the table as a superhero and a detective, respectively.

Luckily, Alex ain’t no slouch either. And she has an excellent team behind her who will stop at nothing to make sure she returns home safely.
