Tommy Shelby – Peaky Blinders

Who knew 1920s Birmingham, England could produce such a dapper gentleman as Tommy Shelby? Of course, “gentleman” might be a bet of a stretch for this thug turned high end gangster. No matter what you want to call him, Tommy cuts a fine figure in his newsboy cap and tightly buttoned vest.

Even when Tommy was a younger man with dirt under his nails and fraying trousers, he was still a sight to behold. As he acquired more wealth and status, he only became more conscious of his image. He began to buy expensive suits, change his shirt regularly, and worry about getting manure on his shoes. As far as he climbed in Birmingham’s underworld, however, he never took the razor blades out of his cap. As a result, Tommy has thrown away many of those blood-soaked expensive shirts.

As a man of the ’20s, he wears a gleaming watch chain and keeps his shirt chastely buttoned up to his throat. Despite how very little of Tommy we see, it only makes him more dreamy. And not to disclose my own dysfunction here, but his stoic demeanor and strong but silent act is just about all it would take to put me over the edge with this man.
