Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman Will Return to National City for the Supergirl Season Finale

Prepare your capes because Superman’s returning to National City to visit his cousin Kara once again when Supergirl wraps its second season this May.

When Supergirl moved from CBS to The CW, the creative team behind the show implemented several changes in order to help acclimate their new audience to a show that in just one season became known for its overaggressive feminist undertones. One of their first orders of business was to find a dude specifically designed to catch the eye of their target demographic. They needed someone who could don the familiar blue and red suit without diminishing Kara Zor-El’s own presence or power. This dude was Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Hoechlin.

He debuted in season 2’s first two episodes and made a terrific Clark Kent. He took a lot of calls from Perry White and dressed almost exactly like Kara — farm nerd chic. But otherwise, his Superman didn’t do that much. Which is perfectly fine, because again, it’s Kara’s show.

But for anyone who really missed Hoechlin, don’t worry. Supergirl wanted to bring him back and E! Online confirmed on Tuesday that they can and will. When season 2 ends on May 22, Hoechlin’s Superman will return to National City, though no other details have been revealed yet.

As executive producer Andrew Kreisberg explained of the character:

"“We simultaneously wanted to have a Superman who was relatable and fun and sort of everything that you remember about Superman from your childhood that was great, while also, at the same time, de-mystifying him a little bit.”"

Basically, all I remember from his performance was the line about why people try to punch him if the bullets don’t do anything. Plus, he had some beef with Space Dad J’onn J’onzz about the presence of Kryptonite.

Hopefully, when Clark returns, he’ll be in much better spirits and maybe bring his girlfriend Lois Lane along. Well, maybe not Lois, but Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant? I haven’t let that go yet, CW.
