Donald Trump and Rogue One on Air Force One
Today, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story showed up on Air Force One of all places. Yes, that Air Force One, and yes, there’s video.
While talking about Syria today on Air Force One, Donald Trump appeared in the same frame as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The movie seemed to be playing on the television while he was talking to reporters.
What’s funny about this? Well first off, Rogue One follows a group of rebels who are planning to take down the Death Star. Not only do they resist against an evil government official but quotes from the movie were widely used to protest Trump himself.
Don’t believe me? There were millions of women with pictures or quotes from Jyn Erso and Princess Leia, who both appear in the movie, when they marched against Trump on January 21 as part of the Women’s March on Washington (and the other sister marches around the world). There are probably about a million other reasons why the irony of this situation is not lost on fans of the Star Wars franchise.
Check the video out below:
Here we have Donald standing and talking in front of the character of Cassian Andor. The same character whose actor, Diego Luna, is very much against Trump and his policies. Cassian, who is one of the first characters in Star Wars history to have a Mexican accent, is a spy whose goal is to take down Darth Vader at whatever cost.
Do you see the irony?
Update on the Story:
According to Alex Mallin of ABC, Trump was not watching Rogue One. Instead the reporters waiting for him had been watching the film and forgot to shut it off when he came out to answer questions.
That’s kind of even funnier than Trump watching it himself.
