Chris Evans Versus Captain America: The Ongoing Saga
Chris Evans can’t seem to make up his mind on whether he’s going to hang onto that Captain America mantle. Now he’s back on the fence, kind of?
Is it just me, or has been Chris Evans been listening to “Spooky” by the Classics IV? “First you say no, you’ve got some plans for the night–and then you stop and say, ‘All right.'”
Because two weeks ago, he said he’s done with Cap, and then he kind of backed off of it a few days later.
Now we’re back to him potentially being done? In an interview with USA Today while on the press tour for his latest film, Gifted, Chris Evans had some choice quotes:
"“The passing of time and the passing of torches is part of the experience. Nothing lasts forever. There’s a beauty in that departure, even if it can be sad at times. It’s also joyful.”“I’ve had a great run. Superheroes are reinventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it. However they want to proceed after ‘Avengers 4,’ it’s really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful.”"
So basically it sounds like he’s okay with leaving it up to other actors to continue as Captain America. But he’s also totally fine with staying on and doing what he can with the character.
Does it come down to a matter of money? If they offer him enough to continue on, what’s there to say no to? It’s given him the freedom to pursue smaller, more indie-like projects a la Snowpiercer and Gifted in his free time. Even if that free time is limited.
They have options to continue on the helm of Cap without him. Both Bucky and Falcon take up the mantle in the comics. What’s preventing them from doing so in the movies? It would probably result in Chris Evans’ Cap dying in Infinity War and actually staying dead.

We’ll see what happens. Only time will tell, and Infinity Wars doesn’t hit theaters until May 4, 2018 with another Avengers movie the year after.
