If anyone out there was worried that the much anticipated Deadpool sequel might not be as action packed as the first: never fear. Director David Leitch assures that there will be even more action in Deadpool 2.
There may not be an exact release date for Deadpool 2 just yet (or a better title, for that matter – I feel like we can do better, guys). But we do know one thing for sure, and that is the fact that stuntman and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is promising lots of jam-packed action scenes, according to his exclusive with Empire.
"“There’s more action in this film. I hope we can expand it and make it interesting in an 87Eleven kinda way.”"
To be clear: 87Eleven is the fighting choreography school that Leitch runs with his John Wick co-director (and fellow former stuntman) Chad Stahelski. Adding to Leitch’s credit, he’s done stunts for Brad Pitt (Ocean’s Eleven, Fight Club), the Bourne series, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, was the action coordinator for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Most recently, he directed Atomic Blonde, which is set to debut in July.
So, yeah. The guy knows what he’s doing when it comes to kicking ass. We can trust him with this one.
Even with all his action experience and promises of action packed sequences in the sequel, Leitch knows to stick with what worked in the first movie, as well.
"“The completely irreverent tone was the thing that won me over about the first Deadpool movie. I want to deliver on what they did and at the same time hopefully expand the universe.”"
Before any fists can go flying when Deadpool 2 starts shooting this summer, Leitch and his team need to find and cast their Cable, Deadpool’s time-traveling companion (also known as Nathan Summers) from the Marvel comics. Rumors surfaced over the past months that Brad Pitt (now out), David Harbour and Michael Shannon may be up for the role. Though, most recently, we’ve all but confirmed that Shannon remains as the frontrunner choice for the role.
The confirmed cast for Deadpool 2, so far, includes star Ryan Reynolds, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Karan Soni as Dopinder.
I know I needed Deadpool 2 like, yesterday. So get on that, Reynolds.
