Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ Turns 10 Today so Let’s Celebrate With The Best Cover
By I. A. Melton
The ridiculous catchy Rihanna song Umbrella turns ten years old today. Let’s celebrate this incredible song with Mandy Moore’s cover ever.
It’s almost crazy to think that Rihanna’s massive hit single ‘Umbrella’ turns ten years old today. Just to give you some context, former President Obama was a Senator of Illinois with aspirations to run for President and the Oscar-winning movie Dreamgirls had just premiered in theaters. We will also remember it as the day Rihanna graced us with her album Good Girl Gone Bad. For Rihanna ‘Umbrella’ wasn’t her only hit from the album. It also gave us chart toppers like ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ and ‘Shut Up and Drive.’
While she is often duplicated, she still has yet to be replicated. Many people have been trying to cover Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ without much success. Even the band Plain White T’s tried and came up short. The only one who has remotely come close to doing a great cover of ‘Umbrella’ is This Is Us star, Mandy Moore.
Take a look at her cover below and tell us we are wrong.
If you were expecting a carbon copy of Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ you would be completely wrong. Mandy Moore’s cover is a much slower adult contemporary version of Rihanna’s Pop/R&B hit. Now, this is not a recent cover from Moore. She covered this song back in 2007 for Yahoo Music. What’s so great about the song and this version is it could be played on the radio today with great success. Since Mandy Moore success on This Is Us some people forget that she’s has been singing a lot longer, then she has been acting. She is best remembered for her hit songs ‘Candy’ and ‘I Wanna Be with You.’ She even released an album of covers in 2003 entitled Coverage.
