Gorillaz Announce “Humanz”, Drop Four New Tracks

Gorillaz, the animated band creation, announce their latest album will be entitled “Humanz”, and release four new tracks to stream.

Gorillaz, for those who are unaware, are the animated, sorry excuse me “virtual” band that sprang from the minds of artists Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett back in the late 1990s. Their first album, Gorillaz , which arrived in 2001, was an instant hit, as were their subsequent follow up albums Demon Days and Plastic Beach.

Since then, the novelty of a band that only exists in cyberspace has sort of waned, and it’s been six years since their last album The Fall arrived back in 2011. Their latest one will be entitled Humanz, as the band announced last night.

Speaking to BBC Radio, Damon Albarn said the album was written last year, but since Trump’s win, had taken on a whole new darker meaning.

"“The album kind of came from this dark fantasy. Just imagine, the weirdest, most unpredictable thing that changes everything in the world. How would you feel on that night? Would you go and get drunk? Would you stay at home? Just watch TV? Would you talk to people?”“I suppose we were imagining the idea of Donald Trump. It’s not about Donald Trump at all. But it was imagining that in a way. That was our dark fantasy, and unfortunately that became our reality.”"

Check out the clips of the four tracks now available for streaming:

“Saturnz Barz” (ft. Popcaan)

The 360 video version:

“Andromeda” (ft. D.R.A.M.)

““We Got the Power” (ft. Jehnny Beth of Savages)

“Ascension” (ft. Vince Staples)

There had been talk ahead of this album that the band would be abandoning the cartoon aspect of the band altogether and play as themselves, but it seems like that did not come to pass. (Thank heavens).
