“Fourth of July” – Saved by the Bell

In the history of television, there has never been a more sunny, longing for warmer weather episode than the Saved by the Bell made-for-TV movie. Its like it was formulated in lab to epitomize a ’90s summer. It’s the perfect mix of giant bangs, high-legged bathing suits, and acid washed jeans. It’s probably the  most perfect hour of television ever made, but that might just be my ’90s nostalgia talking.

In a bold move, Saved by the Bell, aired new episodes during the summer and audiences were glued to their TVs to watch their favorite high schoolers on their time off. The entire gang got jobs at a beach resort, and every single episode was a celebration of how freaking awesome those months are when you don’t have anything to do.

Performing various and sundry jobs when was convenient for the storyline, Zack, Slater, Kelly, Jesse, Lisa and Screech know how to do summer vacation right. Everything from those crips white tennis shorts they had to wear, to Kelly blowing that whistle in a very sexual way, compels me to watch these summer episodes every time the temp climbs above 70.

All that free time and squeaky clean fun make me want to turn my notice in for the summer and head to the sand. But only if Zack Morris and AC Slater can be my cabana boys.
