James Corden Took Matilda to a Whole New Level
The book Matilda has changed us all in many ways but now James Corden is using it to change our story and make the world better.
Whether you grew up watching Matilda with Mara Wilson or you read the Roald Dahl book, it has become a staple for all our childhoods. And when the musical came out, that only furthered our love of the story.
Lucky for us, we have someone like James Corden on television right now who’s taking the message of the book even further. In the song “When I Grow Up” from the musical (my personal favorite from the show), the kids talk about what it means to be a grown.
The original song features lyrics that can be seen below.
"When I grow upI will be tall enough to reach the branchesthat I need to reach to climb the treesyou get to climb when you’re grown up.And when I grow upI will be smart enough to answer allthe questions that you need to knowthe answers to before you’re grown up."
So James decided to take this song and apply it to the current political climate in our country. And it’s quite the sketch.
For those who don’t know, the ending part is actually still part of the original song. “You might as well be saying you think that it’s okay, and that’s not right.” The fact that Corden thought of this is absolutely incredible and fitting! Matilda is all about rising up and doing what you believe in and that’s exactly what we need to do now as adults.
