Game of Thrones is known for its elaborate death scenes the creators have now revealed its most expensive single death on the show. You’ll be surprised by the answer.

When you think about Game of Thrones, you can’t help but remember all the incredible death scenes through the seven seasons. I’m sure with those very detailed scenes comes with a hefty price tag. Series creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff were recently holding a panel at SXSW with Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and let it slip the most expensive single death scene. You’re probably going through your mind now trying to remember all the deaths. There are hundreds to pick from, so I understand if you need a minute.

Now you might think it was in season one when Khal Drogo poured molten gold over his brother-in-law, Viserys Targaryen or Renly Baratheon’s death by a shadow with Stannis Baratheon face in season two. My personal favorite death scene I thought for sure had to be the most expensive was Oberyn Martell’s head getting crushed by the Mountain during their trial by combat in season four.

You would all be wrong. According to Weiss and Benioff, the single death that cost the most was in season five when Meryn Trant’s throat was cut, and eyes gouged out by Arya Stark.

After dropping that revelation during the panel, Benioff explained further, “She couldn’t really poke out his eyes.”  I completely understand what he is saying, but I just didn’t think his death was elaborate or intricate enough that it would be the most expensive single death scene.

Game of Thrones will be back for its seventh season with more dragons and White Walkers July 16, 2017.
