If you thought Chance the Rapper donating a million dollars to Chicago Public School was moving, wait till you read the epic thank you note he received.

It was only a few days ago that Chance the Rapper announced he would give the Chicago Public School System a million dollars for arts and enrichment programs. His donation came from frustration with Illinois Governor, Bruce Ratner inability to fund programs for students in Chicago public schools. This would leave hundreds of thousands of inner city children of Chicago vulnerable to the violence in the streets.

As adults, we already knew how incredible Chance’s donation was to the students in Chicago. It seems now students who will benefit from the donation want to say thank you in a big way. Billboard just published an emotional open letter, written by three latinx students from Chicago’s Lake View High School.

Here’s some of what students Alex Rojas, Alondra Cerros, and Annelisse Betancourt had to say.

"You’re more than just an artist to us, you are a way of life. You make music that we can relate to on many levels, because you know what living in Chicago is like, and you want to make changes in the city. We may not be from the same side but we come from the same city. We just want to thank you for not forgetting where you came from and helping the city of Chicago in more ways than just being an inspirational rapper. You’re using your fame for good and not just to look good. You gave $1 million dollars of your personal money to Chicago schools and that’s something no one has done for us."

After reading that you understand why Chance the Rapper is fighting so hard for these children. Thankfully, Chance got wind of the heartfelt thank you note and tweeted thanks to the children. He’s proven himself to be an honorable young man who would likely personally thank the children privately. Chance is truly for the kids and for that we thank him.

Make sure you read the entire thank you note from Rojas, Cerros, and Betancourt on Billboard.com here.
