This is the first of two specials that Louis C.K. will be dropping on Netflix this year, and it’s a fine entry into our list of the 15 Netflix comedy specials we highly recommend. Filmed in Washington, DC, Louis C.K. had hinted at these specials back in August 2016, while he was filming Live at the Comedy Store, according to Deadline.

And while the comedian has previously done stand-up specials for HBO and Showtime, this is his first special for Netflix, and is indicative of the streaming service’s desire to pick up more A-list talent (whereas HBO, once a repository for A-level comedy specials, has now become the home for up-and-coming talent to hone their craft). Just don’t ask the six-time Emmy winner about The Louis C.K. show, which – after a successful five season run – is still on indefinite hold. Who knows – perhaps Netflix will be inspired to pick it up for syndication.
