Supergirl Season 2 Episode 15 “Exodus:” Maybe We’re Back on Track

Supergirl returned this week with episode 15 “Exodus” and things might be getting back on track in terms of the show we fell in love with.

After a wobbly few weeks of episodes leaving us questioning where Supergirl was going this season, “Exodus” reminds us exactly why we’re here. Before I jump into recapping episode 15, I’ll recap a little of what happened in episode 14 “Homecoming.”

Homecoming

Jeremiah Danvers came back and it wasn’t the family reunion that anyone was expecting. Alex Danvers was happy to see him while Kara Danvers was questioning where his loyalties lie now. To nobody’s surprise (expect for Alex’s), Jeremiah wasn’t back for good, and was actually there to steal information for Cadmus from the DEO’s internal server- the entire registration of all Alien’s on Earth, that is. This, of course, shocked and hurt Alex completely and created a real tension between her and Kara. By the end of the episode, Jeremiah claimed that he had done this all to save his daughters and that he is still on their side. But is he?

To be quite honest, this episode was flat compared to the others. The tension between both Danvers sisters was true to character yet hard to watch. Alex has always been a character who cares for her family deeply, so it’s no surprise that she doesn’t want to believe that one is going to betray her.

Exodus

Ahhh, the Supergirl we all know and love is back. Kinda. Maybe. Well… hopefully.

We kick it off with the story of Alien being captured by Cadmus so they can be sent back to their home planets. Hm, this sounds oddly familiar in terms of our current political situation. This “kidnapping” is obviously getting the attention of the DEO so Kara and Alex’s entire story arc this episode was determining how to save the “immigrants.” J’onn makes it very clear that Jeremiah Danvers is an enemy to the DEO right now so if they find him, they’re to arrest him on site. J’onn asks if Alex is okay with that and she agrees. Kara makes it her goal to get the word out through Katco but Snapper’s not okay with out. She tempts him with interviewing Supergirl himself.

The interview doesn’t go as planned. Snapper wants the origin of the list but Supergirl won’t give it to him. She leaves his office, noting, “you have enough to go on. Innocent people will keep disappearing if you don’t run this article.” Remember that for later.

Over in Sanvers world, they’re playing pool at the bar when Cadmus busts in to take all of the aliens. Even though Alex put up one helluva fight with a pool stick, they still got away with Lyra, Winn’s new gal pal. So if the DEO wasn’t invested in saving them all already, they certainly are now.

Back at the DEO, Alex gets a little crazy with one of the Cadmus guys they brought back. She looses her cool when interrogating him and draws some serious blood. She’s clearly too emotional to be on this case and J’onn sees that.

Later that night in Alex’s apartment, Jeremiah shows up and begs Alex to help him steal something from the DEO. He claims that he’s doing it for her and Kara and that Cadmus will kill them all if he doesn’t do this. She agrees to help him but then we see that Jeremiah is actually J’onn and he was testing Alex. J’onn suspends Alex from the case. Kara agrees with J’onn but Maggie tells Alex that she’ll help. “Ride or die.”

Alex and Maggie intervene while people from Cadmus are detaining an alien. Alex steals the GPS coordinates and heads off to find her father after giving Maggie a kiss goodbye. Swoon.

While Sanvers is off melting our hearts, Supercorp is slowly becoming more involved on this show. Lena meets Kara for lunch at Katco but instead, helps her get some information about Cadmus. Lena’s assistant is working for Lillian though so she tells her that Lena is finding out more than she should know. The assistant asks if she should “take care of her” and Lillian tells her “yes, but nothing permanent.

Two men break into Lena’s office while she’s luckily on the phone with Kara. They accidentally throw her off the balcony but Supergirl shows up just in time! That’s what friends are for!

While Kara is saving Lena, Alex is off kicking ass at the secret Cadmus launch site and finally gets Jeremiah on her side. They’re boarding the ship of immigrant aliens to be launched back to their home planets but they can’t figure out how to stop the launch. Alex gets on board the ship while Jeremiah tries to stop it from the base site. Nothing seems to be working so it’s all up to Supergirl at this point. In a very emotional and touching moment, you almost think that Supergirl won’t be able to stop the ship from exiting the universe. But this is only the 15th episode of the season, so of course she does! They get the ship back on the ground and all is well.

Back at Katco, Kara gets fired from being a reporter after she released her article without Snapper’s permission. So what’s next with Kara Danvers? Perhaps work for Lena Luthor? Or something like that.

Supergirl this week felt like it was back to normal. We had Sanvers being badass. We had sister dynamics. We had Winn being an absolute nerd. We had J’onn being J’onn. These are the things we want to see, and I can only hope that the rest of season 2 will feel like this as well.
