Beauty and the Beast Has a Music Video Now
Beauty and the Beast’s special duet version of the title song now has a music video, and it certainly is a thing in this world.
With less than two weeks to go until Beauty and the Beast finally makes it into theaters, the publicity keeps on rolling. We’ve seen and heard new takes on all sorts of songs so far, like “Gaston,” “Belle,” and now, we have a new music video of “Beauty and the Beast” to go with the new duet from Ariana Grande and John Legend.
We tip our hats to Entertainment Weekly. Check it out below:
Honestly, this video leaves us scratching our heads a bit. Obviously, Grande is doing her best cosplay of the rose at the heart of the story in a poofy dress that out-poofs Belle’s signature golden gown, which is impressive. That became clear even before the rose petal dancers arrived to swirl around her and then form a rose with her.
But is it just us, or does it look as though Legend, Grande, and the waltzing Belle and the Beast are in three different rooms, just with invisible walls that also magically change the lighting? It’s honestly rather distracting to watch, especially when most of us are probably here to enjoy at least his vocals, even if Ariana’s voice isn’t your cup of tea. (Pun very much intended, especially since we can spot Chip in the video.)
Right now, Beauty and the Beast sits at 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, with 45 reviews as of this writing. The Critics Consensus calls the movie “faithful yet fresh.” We note that the 1991 animated version still has the superior 91%. However, there’s still plenty of time before the new movie comes out for some reviews to pull the score up to a Certified Fresh rating.
