Emma Watson Responds to Criticism From People Who Don’t Understand Feminism

Emma Watson is baffled by criticism she received because she took photos that somehow make her less of a feminist. Yeah, we’re confused too, Emma!

Last week, Emma Watson’s Vanity Fair cover story was released, which featured a few images that apparently wiped the definition of “Feminism” from some people’s brain upon seeing them. Yes, it was like magic right out of Harry Potter. One photo in particular contradicted the idea that women can be either smart OR sexy and threw the Internet into a frenzied discussion about whether Emma Watson should be allowed to show her breasts.

Emma was confused by this controversy when asked during interviews for her latest magical movie Beauty and the Beast. She couldn’t hide her shock at the question when asked by Reuters.

"“It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is.”"

Preach, Emma! Clearly, people are confused. So, let’s give them a quick and simple lesson.

"“Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality. I really don’t know what my tits have to do with it. It’s very confusing.”"

Thank you, Emma, for voicing our thoughts exactly. There’s no controversy to be had. Emma can wear whatever she wants, while still being brilliant and a feminist. Discussions like this simply remind us that women are criticized for ridiculous reasons all of the time and that no matter what you do, you’ll probably face criticism. Luckily, Emma is able to handle it like a pro.
