Blessings come on Tuesdays: Benedict Cumberbatch, who is already just two good movies away from God-hood, is starring in a new limited series!
According to TV Line, Benedict Cumberbatch has just signed on to star in the limited series, Melrose, which will air on Showtime. The series, which is based on the book series of the same name by Edward St. Aubyn, will have The Thinking Woman’s Crumpet starring in the titular lead role as Patrick Melrose, who uses excessive drinking to drown out the memories of an abusive childhood.
And though no premiere date has been set, shooting will begin sometime in August of this year.
In a statement announcing his participation, Benedict Cumberbatch said that he was pleased to be a part of what is obviously a wonderful cast and crew.
"“We are delighted to be part of this incredible series. We have been huge fans of these books for many years, and David Nicholls adaptations are extraordinary.”"
Fans will recall that David Nicholls — who will be helming up the scripts for the five episodes in the limited series — also was responsible for the Anne Hathaway rom-com, One Day.
For those hoping that this new series starring Benedict Cumberbatch will be a preview of what to expect in Sherlock, however, TV Line has some disappointing news: PBS just wrapped their fourth season of Sherlock, and in recent interviews, Cumberbatch indicated that the show may not be back for a fifth season. Some are suggesting that Benedict’s soaring movie career — including his blockbuster turn as the titular Doctor Strange — make the return of Sherlock such an impossibility.
