Here is Why Hell or High Water Deserved More Oscar Recognition

The Oscars have now come and gone, Hell or High Water was promptly ignored, and it is truly a travesty. Here is why it should have won.

When it comes to movies that deserve to win Oscars, Hell or High Water was high on my list. When the movie came out last August, I openly talked about why I thought it was going to win. The story was interesting and everyone did an incredible job with the film.

So imagine my surprise when award season came around and the film only got a few nods. Especially when none of those nominations were for Ben Foster or Chris Pine. Even worse, Andrew Garfield in Hacksaw Ridge was nominated over both Pine and Foster.

Honestly, it is a real travesty that this movie was not praised as it should have been. It’s about two brothers, trying to do what was best for their family and to wrong the banks who were trying to wrong them. It was weirdly incredible and really showed how talented Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine, Ben Foster and Gil Birmingham all are.

But you know, Mel Gibson had a pretty terrible movie get nominated for Oscars because the Academy loves problematic white men!

With Hell or High Water, it just showed us that good movies can still exist and they can be original and have us on the edge of our seat. And while I am biased because he is my favorite, it really showed that Chris Pine is more than just a pretty face. He’s a great actor and this was truly a movie he should have been nominated for.
