While we’re all getting ready for the big show this year, let’s look back on the 2016 Oscar winners.
Who won last year, anyway? If you’re going to an Oscars party, you can at least show off your basic level of knowledge about the recent history of the Academy Awards.
It’s also interesting to look back and see what movies have stuck around in both your personal film viewing history and the public consciousness in general. For instance, do you remember Mad Max: Fury Road getting quite so many awards? Did you ever bother to see The Danish Girl or Bridge of Spies?
This list brings back memories and raises further questions, too. Do you think Leonardo DiCaprio still polishes his little gold statuette every day and puts it to bed each night, or is he playing it cool nowadays? Does he seethe with envy when he thinks about Meryl Streep’s groaning shelves full of Academy Awards? What movies really should have won Best Picture, and can you keep yourself out of a fist fight while discussing it?
Speculative fiction aside, here are all of the 2016 Academy Award winners from last year’s ceremony, via the official Academy Awards website:
