SOUND EDITING
Who Will Win

The Oscars has proved the sound editing group likes war movies. War movies that have won this category recently are American Sniper in 2014, Zero Dark Thirty in 2012 and Hurt Locker in 2009. It’s safe to say Hacksaw Ridge can be added to the list. Many might ask why war movies are so heavily favored in this category, but it’s due to the complexity. Having to make sure the voices, gunfire, bombs and sometimes music accompaniment is no easy feat.

SOUND MIXING
Arrival
Hacksaw Ridge
La La Land
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
Who Will Win

This is a real toss-up between Arrival and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Most would like to see Arrival come away with at least one Oscar award but Rogue One deserves it. The Star Wars franchise has been nominated three other times for group but has only won once in 1977 for Star Wars.

VISUAL EFFECTS
Deepwater Horizon
Doctor Strange
The Jungle Book
Kubo and the Two Strings
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Who Will Win

The visual effects category is really a three person race.  We have Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Jungle Book, and Doctor Strange. All three movies used an enormous amount of CGI, but there is only one that I can truly say took my breath away. That honor goes to the mind-bending film Doctor Strange.
