Winners in the 2010s

Jeff Bridges won on March 7, 2010, for the film Crazy Heart. This was Bridges fifth nomination a the time, and he’s racked up two more since, including this year’s supporting turn in Hell or High Water.

Colin Firth won in 2011 with his second consecutive nomination. Firth was nominated for the first time in 2010 for A Single Man and then won the following year with The King’s Speech.

In 2012, The Artist swept Hollywood and actor Jean Dujardin took him the Best Actor prize. He is the first French actor to do so.

Daniel Day-Lewis picked up his third Oscar in 2013 for Lincoln, making him the most awarded leading actor of all time. He’s still one behind the most awarded leading actress: Katharine Hepburn picked up four trophies in her career.

The McConaissance was in full sing in 2014 thanks to True Detective, and it led Matthew McCounaghey to pick up the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Ron Woodrof in Dallas Buyers Club.

In 2015, Eddie Redmayne picked up the Oscar for playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, and last year the memes finally came to an end as Leonardo DiCaprio picked up his long overdue Oscar for The Revenant.

The 2017 winner is still yet to be decided, but the nominees are Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea), Denzel Washington (Fences), Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge), Ryan Gosling (La La Land) and Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic). The winner will be announced during the Oscars ceremony on February 26, 2017 at 8 p.m.
