The Latest ‘Star Wars’ Wardrobe Seems To Be ‘Holiday Special’ Inspired

The latest “Star Wars” wardrobe seems to be inspired by a long-forgotten installment of the so-called Skywalker Saga: the Holiday Special!

For millennials and other Star Wars fans that are too young to remember the 1978 made-for-TV movie that was the Star Wars Holiday Special, it’s something that — unfortunately for you all — has been largely lost to the annals of time (and, recently, declared non-canon by the Powers That Be).

Every time someone mentions the Holiday Special, George Lucas gets an aneurysm. And while there is a faction of the fandom that believes the Holiday Special is something cooked up in Satan’s basement alongside crystal meth and 200 proof moonshine, this writer happens to love it…and, as Fashionably Geek proves, so do the creators of this new Star Wars-inspired fashion line.

Elhoffer Design has added two pieces to her so-called “Padme Amidala” fashion line to include a cape (called the Galactic Princess Cape) and a sweater (called the Galactic Eclipse Sweater).

Now, while the pretty colors certainly invoke the image of a Naboo queen with flowers in her hair in her tomb, this writer would like to submit, for your consideration, the originator of the cape in a galaxy far, far away: one Bea Arthur, best known for her role in the Golden Girls, who played Ackmena — the progenitor to Maz Kanata — in the Special.

Nice scarf, Bea!

Understand: this is not meant to be shade at all. To the contrary: these pieces are quite cute, and professionally done, and certainly better than a lot of other “inspired” stuff out there. It’s just time to give credit where credit is due, and pay homage to the originator of the Star Wars fashions that didn’t include a long white bathrobe in space.
