Yeah, I couldn’t help but return to the Green Lantern Corps. They’re such a vast, remarkable group of superheroes that there’s bound to be more than one to discuss. This time around, it’s Katma Tui.

Katma Tui comes from Korugar, which also happens to be the home planet of Sinestro, a big-time villain and former Green Lantern. Sinestro uses his powers to enslave Korugar while he’s still a Green Lantern, though his superiors have no idea. Oversight really seems to be an issue for the Green Lantern Corps.

Anyway, Katma Tui leads a successful rebellion against Sinestro. Other Green Lanterns are so impressed by her work that she replaces Sinestro. There’s one big issue, however. You see, during Sinestro’s period of tyranny, the people of Korugar came to see the Green Lantern symbol as one of pain and oppression. Seeing the leader of the rebellion join the now-hated Corps is too much for many of them. She is now known on Korugar as “Katma Tui the Lost”.

She butts heads with John Stewart, one of the Green Lanterns for Earth. This, of course, means that they eventually fall in love and marry. Normally, I would roll my eyes so hard that they pop out of my head – why, oh why, does every single female superhero have to suffer through a sappy love story? – but Stewart and Tui are too cool for this. I’ll let it slide – just this once.
