Mel Gibson Has Been Approached To Direct The Suicide Squad Sequel, But Why?

The awful Mel Gibson has been approached to direct the awful Suicide Squad sequel, definitively proving that the DCEU is bound and determined to fail.

In a move that can only be described as proof that the DCEU wants to take as many tax write-offs as they can, The New York Daily News has confirmed that noted anti-Semitic misogynist Mel Gibson is currently in preliminary talks to sit in the director’s chair for the sequel to the tepid Suicide Squad.

Mel Gibson, who is currently trying to make a comeback with Hacksaw Ridge, has only been approached for the possible position, but no formal offer has been made as of yet.

This latest announcement is just the latest in a long line of amazingly questionable decisions in the DCEU, which is currently barraged with reports that Ben Affleck is looking to leave his role as Batman. Affleck, who has already left the director’s chair for the standalone The Batman film, is reportedly cracking under all the pressure being put on him for his accidentally hilarious performance. (For what it’s worth, Affleck subsequently denied the reports of his departure.)

The original Suicide Squad film, which had Margot Robbie leading an all-star cast, earned $745 million worldwide at the box office, but was plagued with negative reviews. (It did not help that the backstage drama was far more interesting than the actual movie that reached theaters either).

If the report of Mel Gibson sitting in the director’s chair for the Suicide Squad sequel does, in fact, come to pass, it’s only more proof positive that a double standard in Hollywood not only exists, but is continuously perpetuated. We’ll recall that, in addition to his anti-Semitic and misogynist rant back in 2006, Mel Gibson also pleaded no contest to a domestic battery charge against his ex-girlfriend (who is also the mother of one of his children), whom he was accused of punching in the face back in 2010. (He later claimed that he only slapped her, as if that makes it any better.)

In addition to Mel Gibson, Daniel Espinosa — who directed Child 44 — is also being considered for the director’s chair.
