Outander fans, stop what you are doing (deliberate pause for dramatic effect). Starz has officially announced the premiere date for Outlander Season 3.

Droughtlander is not officially over, but we are finally getting to the end of it. The cable network Starz announced today that fans could expect Outlander season 3 will premiere in September 2017, according to a press release. Now fans, don’t get upset. We know this is not the spring date that we were promised or expected. We are going to have to wait a little longer than we thought but patience shall be rewarded.

The signs were all there that Outlander was not going to premiere in the spring. Once Starz announced it’s new upcoming show The White Princess would premiere in April 2017, it wasn’t hard to connect the dots. It’s understandable that Starz would like to get its new show off the ground using television’s spring season. The official reason given by Starz President of Programming, Carmi Zlotnik, for Outlander season 3’s later premiere date in the press release was due to the enormous size of the show.

"“The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible.”"

As book readers know Zlotnik is absolutely right. The third book, Voyager, from Diana Gabaldon, takes us to places we haven’t seen before on Outlander. We are going to get a lot of swashbuckling adventures and a new location. This might be why production on Outlander has already wrapped in Scotland and has moved its production down to South Africa for its final five episodes for the season. Here’s a video of Outlander actors Sam and Cait saying good-bye to Scotland for the foreseeable future.
