16. Don’t Ever Forget That Nightcrawler Dated His Step Sister

Nightcrawler dated his step sister. Nightcrawler. Dated. His. Step. Sister. Nightcrawler – fan favorite, blue, furry, charming, Nightcrawler – seriously, truly dated his step sister. Should I say it again? Because I’m still not over it, really.

So, Nightcrawler’s backstory in generally is pretty weird. The short version: he’s the son of Mystique and another mutant, Azazel. Both parents are pretty bad at raising young kids, and so Nightcrawler (a.k.a., Kurt Wagner) ends up as the adopted son of circus performer Margali Szardos. Margali already has two kids, including her daughter, Jimaine.

Eventually, Kurt is recruited by Professor X to join the X-Men and defeat Krakoa. He stays on (at least in this version of reality) and leaves behind his weird German circus family. Jimaine, however, is having none of that. She changes her name to Amanda Sefton and follows the X-Men, where she eventually begins dating Kurt without telling him that she’s his step sister.

This would be strange enough on its own. Despite that, things get weirder. You see, Kurt eventually figures it all out and keeps dating his step sister. Jimaine/Amanda hangs around because she’s a sorceress, which is close enough to a mutant for superhero work. They eventually break up, but it’s all too strange not to include here.
