17. Magneto Removes Wolverine’s Skeleton, Accidentally Turns Him Into a Caveman

Okay, I don’t think Magneto was really trying to help here. In fact, I think Magneto’s personal definition of “helping” may not even align with that of the other mutants or even plain old normie humans. So, it’s hard to put this particular act – just casually removing Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton, you know – in a positive light.

This particular storyline begins in the 1993 Fatal Attractions series, meant to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the X-Men franchise. This particular story doesn’t stop there, however. You see, Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton was the only thing that kept him from… uh… becoming a caveman. Comics, am I right?

The thing is, Wolverine’s de-evolved appearance changed depending on the artists that drew him and the writers that created the scripts. Sometimes, he was barely recognizable as a sentient being. At other times, he managed to put on his X-Men uniform and just did his job, albeit with some extra hair and fangs.

There were even times where he was just plain, old Wolverine, and no one said anything apart from a throwaway line about an “image inducer”. Eventually, everyone involved just stopped talking about it, and Wolverine went back to normal. Now, it’s just a period of time in comics history that, more often than not, gets quietly swept under the rug.
