8. That Time Aliens Make the X-Men Recreate The Wizard of Oz
You didn’t think we were done with Mojo, were you? Neither were the X-Men writers. After all, this gross alien villain presents a lot of opportunities for crazy stories. It doesn’t quite follow that you’d throw the X-Men into the world of The Wizard of Oz, but let’s just go with it for a couple of minutes.
Instead of Dorothy trapped in her Kansas farmhouse, tossed about by a massive tornado, you get Longshot and the X-Mansion. Longshot, by the way, is yet another amnesiac. He hails from another dimension, naturally. His mutant powers tend to focus around luck and probability (hence the name), though he has the requisite healing factor and agility that seem to bless every other mutant.
Anyway, Longshot is our Dorothy. In that vein, Rogue is the Tin Woodsman, Cyclops is the Scarecrow, and an animalistic Beast is Toto. Wolverine is, of course, the Cowardly Lion.
Longshot eventually figures out that they need to follow the storyline of the original Wizard of Oz to find out what’s going on. Mojo, who’s spent much of his time gloating about rating to a hostage Professor X, gets killed. Well, he’s about as dead as anyone is in comics, which turns out to be not very dead at all.
