Star Wars Takes Win In Early Grammys Awards

The non-televised portion of the Grammy awards are in full swing right now, and John Williams is among the winners for Star Wars.

It’s 6pm here on the East Coast and the Grammys have been going for at least two hours so far. What’s that you say? But the red carpet hasn’t started yet! Yes well, much like the Emmys and the Oscars, the Grammys are far, far too large to fit into one evening’s telecast. Dozens of the awards are given out and never shown.

But unlike the Oscars and the Emmys, who hold their “technical” awards days and sometimes weeks beforehand, the Grammys insists on having their non televised portion of the ceremony on the same day, in the same venue as the televised one. This makes for a strange red carpet as some stars will slip out a side door and jump into a waiting limo to “arrive” for the cameras, while others step out of the ceremony while it’s still happening, to stretch their legs, smoke a cigarette and chat with that poor chap Ryan Seacrest that security isn’t letting inside.

Meanwhile this also means that while we are getting ready for the red carpet, winners are simply pouring out of the venue as fast as we can keep up. And this year, we are happy to announce, one of those winners is the legendary john Williams.

John Williams took home the award for Best Scoring for Visual Media for his work in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. (Due to the strange way the Grammy calendar works, The Force Awakens was not eligible last year, having come out in December. Rogue One will be eligible next year.) He joins such other illustrious pop stars who found themselves relegated to early category wins such as Justin Timberlake who won for “Can’t Stop The Feeling” from Trolls, and Beyonce, who won Best Music Video for her work in last year’s single. “Formation.”
