2. The Concert for Bangladesh by George Harrison & Friends (Ravi Shankar, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton & Klaus Voormann) in 1973

What a year for music this was. But what sucks is that George Harrison, while a great musician and performer, should not have won this. Mainly because the album was a lot of songs that had already been written by other people and performed by the Beatles.

And it was a great group of artists up for Best Album that year. Don McLean had American Pie, the Original Broadway Cast of Jesus Christ Superstar was nominated. Neil Diamond had Moods and then there was another artist that isn’t really important now. But see what I mean? This year had so many amazing artists and for George to win for a concert album with songs that the Beatles had written just doesn’t seem fair.

Actually what isn’t fair is the fact that the Beatles only won a Grammy for Best Album. Because come on, really? And the worst is the one they lost for to Blood, Sweat and Tears (we’ll talk about that next). So while we love George Harrison and recognize that he deserves this, the music and albums he was up against is just too amazing.

And if it was a whole new album? Completely different story. But it was just random songs from his collection.
