9. Genius Loves Company by Ray Charles in 2005

Honestly, you have got to be kidding me with this one. Yes, Ray Charles is great. He is one of the best artists we’ve ever had, but the albums he beat out? For an album that had some of his greatest hits remastered on it? It doesn’t make any sense.

He beat out American Idiot and The College Dropout and The Diary of Alicia Keys and Confessions. Out of all of those, Ray Charles won? The problem with the Grammys is that a lot of these awards are pity awards. “Well we didn’t give you a Grammy when this song actually was released so we’ll give you one for the second album you put the same song on.”

All award shows are guilty of it but this one was really quite insane. Kanye’s best album with Alicia’s that gave us “If I Ain’t Got You” and then American Idiot, that spawned its own award winning musical, and Ray Charles won?

No. This one is definitely one of the worst wins in Grammy history. If there had been different albums that had been nominated then maybe it would make sense. But it doesn’t because these are all incredible albums and Charles definitely shouldn’t have won.
