BBC’s Orphan Black returns for its fifth and final season this year and we just learned the official date of the premiere.
Orphan Black — BBC’s little show about clones and the many faces of Tatiana Maslany — returns for a final season soon. Since it’ll be the final ten episodes, the anticipation is higher than normal because there’s just so much to wrap up. Orphan Black spent four seasons unraveling this huge mess of genetic experiments, and I just want to see how they plan to walk that back to a satisfying end.
Maybe the entire experiment is that this is all in Sarah Manning’s head. Everything after Beth Childs’ suicide is just a side effect of Sarah’s PTSD. That’s how I explain away all the unexplainable — the main character wakes up and it was all just a dream. Fuller House? Just a strange dream sequence happening in Michelle Tanner’s head.
When Orphan Black returns on June 10, we’ll be finding all of our favorite clones in different places. Sarah was left for dead on the island while Rachel Duncan regained power and prepared to meet her Neolutionist icon. Meanwhile, Ferdinand took Siobhan and Kira hostage, Cosima reunited with Delphine, and Project Castor fell off the map.
Of course, Orphan Black straddles the line between leaving us utterly confused and completely heartbroken. Each season finale leaves us wanting more and wondering what’s going to happen next, but are we really ready to say goodbye to the show?
“We always sort of had five seasons in mind, and the thing that we just didn’t want to do is get kind of soft around the middle,” co-creator Graeme Manson said at Comic-Con. “We really think that it’s cooler to cancel yourself than to get canceled, than to peter out.
After Orphan Black ends, we can just cancel television, how about that?
