Game of Thrones Concept Art Gives Us A Spoilery Glimpse At Season 7

A new concept art image purportedly from Game of Thrones Season 7 has turned up on reddit, and gives us a look at a new location.

By this time every year Game of Thrones has released at least a teaser and an official image or two from the upcoming season, as lead in teasers for the March promotional period that heralds the show’s return in April. But all that’s out the window this year, as we don’t even know *when* Game of Thrones Season 7 is returning. All we know is that the premiere must be post May 31st, since that is the cut off date for the 2017 Emmys, and the show has made clear it will not be making that deadline this coming year.

With the long dearth of information, those on the Game of Thrones reddit have been hunting extra hard for leaks to keep their fan fires burning. This week, according to the Spanish site Los Siete Reinos they’ve turned up an image that is supposedly concept art for one of the most important scenes being filmed this season.

SPOILERS, HO!

Are we clear? Did everyone who doesn’t want to know leave the internet? Yes? Good, let’s dive in.

This photo supposedly shows one of the major scenes this season–that of the “meeting of the minds” in the Dragon Pit, an unused arena type space in King’s Landing that has collapsed into disrepair, after hundreds of years with no dragons to keep in them. (Think Rome’s Colosseum, which has deteriorated to the point where you can see the holding rooms that were once beneath the stadium floor.)

This scene, which uses the same mixture of photography and sketch that we’ve seen in previous Game of Thrones concept art, is particularly important, not just because we have Tyrion Lannister and Bronn, who haven’t seen each other since Season 4, there together. That is the back of Jon Snow’s head if I’m not mistaken on the right, which means we have representatives from three factions in one place. And rumor has it that Dany herself is also supposed to be there….as are Jamie Lannister and Cersei Lannister, plus others, like The Mountain, Qyburn, Brienne of Tarth, Tormund Giantsbane and more….all gathered together to face the reality of the White Walker threat and discuss how to deal with the oncoming storm.

Is this really the way the Dragon Pit will look when they arrive? How the set turns out from the concept art always has major differences. But if this is the real deal, it confirms the rumor that the factions will meet at some point this season, and admit to each other what we’ve suspected for a long time: the Long Night is coming.
