Game of Thrones likes to kill its characters off — and it seems like fans have some ideas about who might die in Season 7.
Once Joffrey asked Ser Ilyn Payne to bring him the head of Ned Stark, everyone who hadn’t read A Song of Ice and Fire got the idea that Game of Thrones did not play around at all. In fact, it’s almost a running joke that there will be a lot of death in any new season of the show. Actually, it’s also a valid point of speculation for fans.
Entertainment Weekly even found a poll from a sports betting site on who might just shuffle off the mortal coil in the next season. Apparently, Theon Greyjoy, whom we can now call Theon again after what happened in Season 6, won the poll with over 14% of the vote. Jon Snow, Bran Stark, and Daenerys Targaryen ended up closer to the bottom of the barrel. Sports Betting Experts actually recommended betting on Cersei Lannister, Jaime Lannister, and Euron Greyjoy to die, though.
Let’s break down Theon, Cersei, and Jaime in particular.
The Case for Theon to Die
First, let’s tackle why Theon might die. Story-wise, he’s suffered for his nasty turn, and by suffer we really mean “He spent a lot of time with Ramsay Bolton”. He’s now redeemed himself by helping Sansa escape and working with his sister, Yara. As a result, his arc seems like it might not have a lot of places to go. Additionally, spoilers from our sister site, Winter is Coming, suggest that he and Yara may run afoul of Euron. (Doesn’t that make you wonder about whether or not Euron will die?)
The Case for Cersei to Die
She has a very scary affiliation for wildfire, and we all know what happened the last time a reigning monarch showed a scary affinity for wildfire. Speaking of, it would be a nice form of rhyme to put Jaime in the position of having to kill his sister after what he had to do to Aerys Targaryen.
The Case for Jaime to Die
Cersei in particular has talked about how she and Jaime have always been together, so it wouldn’t surprise us if she ends up taking her brother with her.
