34. Poison’s Kiss

This book just came out earlier this year, but Goodreads seems to indicate that it’s a series, and suffice it to say that the novel itself makes it very clear that this story could go several more places, all of which I’d be more than interested in. In other words, I want to see this in film form.

After all, it features a heroine who has the power to kill with nothing more than a kiss, a deep mythology inspired by Indian myths like the naga, and a conspiracy to keep Marinda, our heroine, from asking too many questions. Conspiracies always work well on the page, and they work well on celluloid, too. There’s also a touch of romance as well, but no love triangle, at least not yet, and that alone can set it apart from many other YA adaptations.

However, because of its relative newness, any adaptations may want to wait until later, to see if more novels appear on shelves. Additionally, as I said in my own review, Poison’s Kiss goes quickly. It’s more suited to a movie because of that, since it would lend itself to a tight, lean film that keeps Marinda and the viewer moving.
