More drama on the horizon as Lenny Belardo addresses his ‘lessers’ in HBO’s limited series The Young Pope Episodes 5 and 6. Here’s how to watch it online.

The papal tiara is back in the Vatican, and we’re not entirely sure how Pope Pius XIII plans to wield his power. We can’t wait to bring you more recaps of HBO’s limited series The Young Pope Episodes 5 and 6, premiering this Sunday and Monday. With each passing week, the complexities of Lenny Belardo (masterfully played by Jude Law) are brought to the forefront. We’re given a pope we can’t help but watch with bile fascination as he strips away at Catholicism, one cigarette at a time.

What happened?

Questions are raised about Lenny’s papacy, especially after the awkward press conference Sister Mary (Diane Keaton) gave in Episode 3. But by Vatican law, he is still the pope, and (unfortunately) what he says goes. Lenny prepares for his speech to the Cardinals and strikes up a holy friendship with the only person who seemed to hear his warped papal message: Esther (Ludivine Sagnier). So far, she’s the only one who has seen Lenny as the holy man elected Pontiff. But the tides are changing ever since Cardinal Voiello (Silvio Orlando) forced her to investigate him, under threat of releasing information about another religious affair of hers.

Lenny also sent Monsignor Gutierrez (Javier Cámara) on a mission to New York to quash a growing child abuse investigation, which the series is drawing more attention to. That, combined with the growing doubt of God’s existence has left viewers terrified, fascinated, and faith-shaken.

What’s Next?

Lenny will finally give his long-awaited speech to the Vatican Cardinals. We’re sure it’s about to give the Catholic Church a forced face-lift, judging by how much the show has hyped it up. Addressing the Cardinals with the extravagant papal tiara on his head, Lenny only says two words to start his speech: “Knock, knock.” Do we want to know who’s there?

Furthermore, there seems to be confusion at the start of Episode 5, since the Holy Father goes missing. We see him power-walking away from the Vatican in his papal tracksuit, Cardinal Andrew Dussolier (Scott Shepherd) in tow. Meanwhile, Lenny’s relationship with Esther seems to be blossoming under the watchful eyes of Cardinal Voiello and his crew.

But it seems like Lenny may already know about Voiello’s plan, as we see him threatening him with “his secrets.” However, the old Cardinal is crafty as he is self-aware, so it will be interesting to see how this battle of wits plays out.
