Lily Allen Covers Going to a Town for an Anti-Trump Anthem

Rufus Wainwright made the beautiful song “Going to a Town” and Lily Allen decided to cover it as an anti-Trump anthem. And it is glorious.

Lily Allen is known for her hard hitting music and her fearless attitude towards authority. She says what she wants and doesn’t apologize for it. So it isn’t really surprising that she put out an anti-Trump song. What is surprising is that it is a Rufus Wainwright song.

At the Women’s March this last weekend, Allen recorded this amazing cover and, when you listen to the lyrics, it scarily fits for our nation as a whole.

"I’m going to a town that has already been burnt down.I’m going to a place that has already been disgraced.I’m gonna see some folks who have already been let down.I’m so tired of America.I’m gonna make it up for all of The Sunday Times.I’m gonna make it up for all of the nursery rhymes. They never really seem to want to tell the truth.I’m so tired of you, America."

The song is just an eery message to us all. Because many of us are tired of America. Our voices aren’t being heard and our own goverment is against us. Our system is failing and there is nothing we can really do.

So kudos to Lily for thinking of a song that was created back in 2007. Even then, we were failing and we had a hope with Obama that we just threw away. But maybe, just maybe, with people like Lily Allen at the reins, we can start to pick ourselves back up.
